Worst advice I've heard first home buyers be given would definitely be shop around for the best interest rate.

If we're using the government grants, pretty much all of the banks that provide those grants are going to be the same interest rate. If you're shopping around, you're going to be hitting your credit file over and over again, which is going to severely ruin your credit.
