How to avoid costly BAL ratings in your new home build
When building a new home, it's essential to consider the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) rating to avoid costly construction costs.

So we had a client come to us, she'd previously purchased land through somebody else, not realising that there was what's called a BAL-40, which is effectively within the flame zone of a bushfire event. What that meant was in her build costs, there was nearly $40,000 to $50,000 of additional costs that were required for her home to be completed.
Luckily enough, she had purchased actually a very, very large piece of land. And what we were able to do was alter that design to do a much more narrow design. And what that did was it basically dropped that BAL rating from being a BAL40 down to a BAL19, which saved her significant amounts of money within her construction.
